Don't dazzle me with your fancy math.

Magnet #1299 - I suck at math

Familiar refrains if you spend any time with me - both "don't dazzle me with your fancy math," and "I suck at math."

But it's true. If you've ever had to work a spreadsheet with me, split a tab with me, figure out calendar days with me, budget projects with me, measure dimensions with me add two apples together with me, you know this to be the case.

It's why my sister bought this magnet (ok, ok, pin) for me.

It's also why I can't figure out how some of the first cousins are in actual mathematical and engineer courses, while I need a calculator for those two apples.

Crazy.

You want me to cook?

Magnet #1286 - Did you eat?

DCsis brought this back for me from Comic-Con.

Supercute.

And supertrue.

It was practically the first thing my dad asked a couple of days ago on the impromptu visit down to Salisbury.

"Did you eat? You want me to cook?"

I should have taken him up on his offer, but as I was pretty much guaranteed a choice between a fried egg or fried rice, I said no.

I mean, he seems to forget he's earned the nickname Heartpatientdad.

High Line is your line, too

Magnet #1280 - Locomotive on the High Line

Back in the mid-1840s, NY said ok to having a street-level railroad tracks on 10th Avenue, but so many casualties happened during the next several decades that it became known as Death Avenue.

By the 30s, they built the High Line - an elevated train that ran from Spring Street all the way up to 34th Street.

But, as with many great public works, it went through a decline and then finally in the 60s, they started demolishing parts of it. Sad.

Thank goodness for pictures - love this pin magnet because it shows a downtown train (because that's the ESB behind it) on the elevated tracks.

What I want to do is talk to someone who actually rode that train back in the day - I bet money when they walk around at the High Line park nowadays, they're totally amazed with what they've managed to accomplish up there.

And if you haven't been to the High Line park - go when it's not crowded. For sure, the park's been discovered.

Which is a good thing...I guess.

Always removed

Magnet #1150 - Duran Duran

Duran Duran is playing Coachella tonight.

This weekend, Twitter's been full of folks Tweeting about how jealous they were of the folks that went out there. Not me - only because I've never been a big concert-goer. Well, at least, I wasn't jealous...

...until I just found out a friend, of a friend, of a friend is there with them.

No, I mean with them. As in, in the group shot of Duran Duran before boarding the plane to head out there.

Sigh. I need to get an infinitely cooler life.

Impulse buy

Magnet #1141 - Chatter box

You know those colorful containers at the cashier counters? The ones with all the supercute whatevers with the handwritten price stickers? The stuff you don't need, but you absolutely want. The impulse buys?

Yeah. They make that stuff for me. I'm the one who holds up the line as I dig through a little bucket of cute pins or rocks (looking for my name) or mood rings. They're the things that inevitably add a good $5 to my purchase.

I can't help it. I see it. I want it. I buy it.

I love this design series of pins magnets - every time I see them, I end up getting one or two. They're just adorable.

This one I just loved because I often get accused of being a chatterbox. But I say it depends on who I'm with...or what I'm talking about...or what I've had to drink.

Honestly, though, isn't that the same for everyone?

Happy drop week, @duranduran!

Magnet #1124 - Duran Duran

Welcome to Duran Duran week on joy magnetism. Yes. A whole marathon, with likely nothing but pretty pins magnets for each day. What?

My sister stumbled across a whole tin of old pins of mine growing up, so I've quickly turned most of them into magnets. Some of them I remember, but I didn't have one of those cool jean jackets with pins all over them in school, so I haven't a clue what I did with these pins.

Anyway, I figured I'd just use the majority of my Duran pins in honor of their newest work, All You Need Is Now which drops today in CD and special CD/DVD editions.

Totally bought the autographed special deluxe edition from Newbury Comics. What? Ya'll know how much I love my Duran Duran. I can't wait til it gets here - I'm like stalking that PO box.

In the meantime, I'll just keep listening to the iTunes album version I bought earlier this year.

So if you see me bebopping down the road, it's really because I'm so very happy I have new DD tunes to dork out over in the car...
