LEGO Buildings and Lions - Escape Home to NYC, Part 2, Day 4

Magnet #1185 - LEGO

While I love LEGOs, I'm not like the hugest LEGO fan out there. I didn't really grow up putting them together, and played with them only once in a blue moon. In fact, I think that's why I have so much more fun with them now as an adult.

I inherited a LEGOs set at my old office, so when the kids come in, they'd playdate with me on my cube floor, and we'd build fun stuff. The box wasn't a full-on set, just randoms, so we'd really have to get creative with what we built.

Lemme tell you, if you think advertising creative folks are hard to get along with? Try getting in the way of a 4-year-old's LEGOvision.

If you've read anything from this blog, you know that I'm a big architecture buff, so of course, I'm loving all the architectural sets LEGO's released over the last couple of years. Naturally, my two fave sets are Frank Lloyd Wright's Guggenheim and Fallingwater. I had so much fun putting them together - even as friends and family sat and wondered how old I was. Still. C'mon. They're superduper cool!

My other LEGO fave is the touring Towering Ambition architecture tour that we saw in Chicago. It's currently at the National Building Museum in DC, so if you get a chance to go, you must. It's a cityscape of tall and taller famous buildings from all around the world, all made of LEGO blocks. Freakin' fantastic. And don't even get me started on LEGOLand - I just walk around for ages looking at all of their outdoor diorama displays!

It's been a LEGO-filled weekend, too. Today, I finally braved the Rock Center crowds again to visit the store - they have a new tiny Andy Warhol display, which is superdupercute.

And this weekend, I basically hung out at the New York Public Library for their Centennial Celebration. They commissioned a LEGO artist to put together half-sized Patience and Fortitude, the library lions. Even with 60,000 pieces, they were a tad bit on the small side, but still, damned cool.

I just love my shot below of the awesome Library Lion, reading @MichelleKnudsen's Library Lion, flanked by the LEGO Library Lions. So funny.

It's like the Best. Shot. Ever.

They weren't you, honey.*

Magnet #994 - Marion Ravenwood

I love seeing Harrison Ford positively everywhere lately. I'm not even a huge fan, it's just nice to see the guy out and about and on people's sofas. He was on Kimmel this week. Kimmel. And? He was actually pretty funny.

(Plus, there's something hot about Harrison Ford, journeyman carpenter. Pictures. We need to find those. Surely some woman took a picture of her hot carpenter. No? Really? What a waste.)

So, seeing all the commercials for Morning Glory, and hearing the news that he lobbied for Han Solo to kick it in Return of the Jedi, and hearing his gravelly voice all over the place, kinda makes me want to rewatch his whole Netflix oeuvre, starting from scratch. Kinda.

For sure, I need to re-watch all of the Indiana Jones movies, because after reading Marion Ravenwood's Indy wiki, it feels like there's a whole Indyverse that I've missed out on. Like, seriously. Just scroll down to the bottom of that page, there's appearances everywhere, including non-canonical ones! And two from the LEGO Indiana Jones alone. (Ok, what?)

And I've always thought I needed to watch the Star Wars saga back to back, to back to back, to back to back. (Guess what I just added to my Netflix queue. This could take a while.)

So, I guess the question is, should I also add in the Jack Ryan series? I mean, they're great, but not epic. Plus, no one's dressing up at Comic-Con as Jack Ryan.

For sure, I don't need to rewatch Witness or Mosquito Coast, or Frantic, or Working Girl, and definitely not Six Days, Seven Nights.

Though, I've never really seen Regarding Henry.

Oh, yeah. This could take a while. I'm not making any promises, honey.

*Indy to Marion, in Crystal Skull. I've never really believed that they procreated together, but I'll admit that if they manage to make a new Indy series with Mutt the Greaser, I will totally be there for it.

We named the *dog* Indiana

Magnet #887 - Professor Henry Jones

SuperTaj and THE SHADOW and their mom and I went to Legoland this week.

First, it's ridiculous that people actually thought that I - of all people - wouldn't enjoy Legoland. I mean, hello, it's Legoland!!! There's a big part of me that thinks they built Legoland just for me.

I flippin' loved it. I want to know exactly how many items made out of Legos are in the park, and how many Legos it took to make everything. How freakin' awesome is that park?

Honestly, I would have been happy without any of the rides - maybe because we only rode the rides for 36" and over, and under 3YO, and so I don't know what I missed. But, I loved everything they built out of Legos.

What's not to love? A mini-USA? Complete with a Grand Central Station, a Flatiron building, my absolute favorite building in NYC - the Fred F. French building? OML. Their Vegas didn't have a Bellagio or an Elvis, but that's ok. I totally loved their tiny towns!

Plus, their gift shop? The fact that they call it the BIG SHOP? Ohmygoodness. LOVE. Where else would I find Professor Henry Jones? C'mon! I couldn't believe it, either. I can't wait to get home to unpack the rest of the magnet sets I bought.

Because you know I just bought a tiny town of magnets.
